Nearby Pubs
Toft Estate enjoys a peaceful countryside setting in Heaton, yet it’s within easy reach of some of the Peak District’s most characterful and welcoming country pubs. Whether you’re after a pint by the fire, a hearty meal after a walk, or a sunny beer garden with a view, there’s something for every occasion.
One of the best-loved pubs in the area is The Ship Inn in Wincle (a 5 minute drive or an hour walk across country roads). Just a short drive through beautiful countryside, this traditional pub is full of rustic charm and surrounded by scenic walking routes. It’s the perfect place to relax with a local ale—especially one from the nearby Wincle Brewery, just down the lane. The food is homemade and satisfying, and the views from the garden on a warm day are hard to beat.
Closer still is The Knot Inn (a 5 minute drive or a 45 minute walk across fields into Heaton and then along country roads) in Rushton Spencer, a stylish but laid-back pub known for its friendly service and excellent food. Set right on the Staffordshire Way, it’s a favourite among walkers and cyclists, with a broad menu that includes pub classics and seasonal specials. The spacious interior and cosy atmosphere make it ideal year-round.

Also worth visiting is The Lazy Trout (a 5 minute drive away) near Meerbrook, popular with walkers heading to or from The Roaches. With beautiful views over Tittesworth Reservoir and a varied menu, it’s a great spot for lunch or dinner after a day exploring the hills.
For something truly traditional, The Red Lion in Waterfall or Ye Olde Crown Inn in Waterhouses both offer classic country pub experiences with open fires, well-kept ales, and a friendly, relaxed vibe.
With so many excellent pubs just a short drive or walk away, guests at Toft Estate are spoiled for choice when it comes to food, drink, and rural hospitality.
